While we generally take a lot of the right precautions when we leave the house to ensure that we do not attract or allow entry to intruders, it is also important to make sure that when you are home, you are conscious of your security too.

Therefore, your CCTV surveillance system does not only have to be used when you go out, it can also be used when you are at home to ensure your property and your family are safe. For example, a CCTV system above the door is especially useful to see who is there before you open the door. This is also a good habit for you to get your children involved in as they should know never to open the door to strangers.

You and your kids can also check the door from any part of the house and if you or they do not know the person at the door you can simply turn them away. Some intruders may try to enter a home which is occupied, by forcing their way in the front door when you answer. By checking the door before you answer and staying in a safe part of the house, you are keeping yourself and your home protected.

Intruders may of course also look around your home when they think you are not home to help them decide whether they will be able to break in at a later time. If you are home and you hear activity around your house, you can simply use the CCTV system to help you check on the noises and not have to go outside to confront the intruder and put yourself in danger. You can then simply call the police or the neighbourhood watch to get rid of the intruder.
